The best robot vacuum will clean and vacuum your floors without having to be involved. It also leaves clean. Its affordable price and high-end functions (such as dirt detectors) are a plus.
Make sure you regularly examine the brushes of your robot for tangled hair as well as large debris, and wash them when needed. The Q5 Pro and its sibling, the pricier Q7 Max Series, are among the most powerful robot vacuums we've tested. They are equipped with top-of-the-line motors which can pull up to 5,500 Pascals of suction force. Similar to other iRobots that are premium (including the most powerful model) they employ intelligent mapping to design precise floorplans and avoid household obstacles such as cords and furniture leg. They also feature carpet boost that increases the robot's power when it detects the presence of dirt on the carpet, allowing it clean quickly.
The Q5 and Q7 Max Series both scored excellently in our tests on floors that were bare, and they are particularly adept at cleaning hair from dogs. There are some issues however, which hinder them from being our top option. One of the Q5's shortcomings is its navigation system doesn't have AI-powered obstacles avoidance. It's therefore prone to getting stuck on shoes and socks, and it couldn't navigate densely packed rooms very well in our tests. It also doesn't have a camera that can see around corners.
It's still a great option, especially if you want to save money on a Roomba from iRobot and have a mostly unfinished home or office. It's also quiet and operates while you are at work or at school. It's not equipped with the edge-to-edge floor vacuuming feature that's offered by the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. It's also less effective at mopping, relying on disposable wet wipes, which don't stick on very well and can't deal with dried-on debris. The Q5 has an auto-emptying dock, however. And, if you have to, you can switch the mopping pad to dry ones in just a few just a few seconds.
2. iRobot Roomba
The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive vacuuming and mopping capabilities into a compact, sleek package. Its quick navigation and smart cleaning maps make it simple to clean and efficient at dealing with larger particles such as pet hair. It also comes with strong suction and self-emptying bin. It's the best robotic hoover for carpets but it's not as good as other hoovers in terms of deep cleaning.
This highly efficient mop and vacuum combination uses advanced sensor technology to dodge obstacles and pet waste and it learns the layout of your home over time to provide more efficient cleaning. You can alter its cleaning schedule and set up zones with the well-designed app. Its battery life is average when compared to similar models.
When the X30 Ultra is in a carpeted area, you can tell it to take off and extend its mop. This helps prevent cross contamination. The flex arm is great for getting under low-lying furniture and along baseboards. It's not as efficient on the washboard as our other Editors' Choice Picks, the Ecovacs Ozmo N8Pro+ and the iRobot Combo j9+.
In tests, the X30 Ultra was the fastest robot vacuum/mop to complete the entire house with only 66 percent of its battery left. It also did a good job cleaning a range of rooms and floors with various flooring types, such as certain area carpets. Its obstacle detection was top-of-the-line and it was nimbly avoiding fake dog socks, turds, shoes, and bundles of cables.
It's a little more expensive than iRobot Combo v9+ or iRobot Roomba j9+ but offers superior suction and an onboard bin that is automatically empty into the base. It also supports voice commands using Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It can even clean the floor after it vacuums, a feature that we've not seen on other robot vacuum/mop combinations.
3. IRobot Roomba X40
With a sleek, circular design that looks more like a normal Roomba rather than the boxes this mop and robot vacuum is one of the most attractive looking models in our evaluations. iRobot’s latest flagship model is also its smartest. It has advanced features such as Enhanced Dirt Detection and future compatibility (another company's robot that can wash mop pads autonomously).
It's the only robotic mop or vacuum that scored a perfect 10 in our testing, thanks to a combination of high-tech sensors, including a camera, structured light system and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot we tested that is fully self-refill and empty its base station and it has an the industry's highest suction of 12,000Pa and self-cleaning mop pads.
The X40 as with other iRobot products, is simple to use. It has an intuitive mobile application interface, and it integrates with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only drawback is that it's an eerily noisy device, which can be a problem if you run it in the morning before work or at night as you try to fall asleep.
It's also a bit expensive, though it's not as expensive as the Ecovacs Omni or Roborock's S8 MaxV Ultra, both of which are equally powerful and better-looking. If you're willing with a bit more noise and some additional cost it's a capable two-in-one that should delight most.
4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra
The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum and mop, with a lot of advanced features that let you forget about your chores. The L20 Ultra is a hands-free cleaner, similar to Ecovacs the top of the line X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra. It has a multifunction dock which automatically emptys the vacuum's bin, refills the water tank, and washes and drys mop pads.
The smart robot makes use of LIDAR and structured lighting to map out floorplans and identify obstacles. It is more efficient in its navigation than its top competitors. It also comes with a front-mounted camera for real-time hazards detection but this wasn't foolproof in our tests and could be confused with obstructions or power cords.
Its vacuum cleaner has the capacity to suction up to 7,000 Pascals which is more than sufficient to complete the task. It also comes with "Intelligent Dirt Detection", which regulates the intensity at which the vacuum works and also alters the frequency of cleaning for different areas of the home according to how dirty they tend to be.
For larger houses it's recommended to choose models that has zone or spot cleaning modes that allow you to tell the robot to clean a particular area of your house by using the app or via voice commands. A stair mode can be useful if you own a lot furniture. For busy families, a recharge feature and resume feature that allows your robot vacuum to resume where it left off could be very useful.
iRobot RX3
The RX3 is more advanced than the price suggests. It has a great vacuuming performance and picked up 55% debris in our tests. (It was second to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops with a single pad that uses an oscillating motion that is cleaner than the other mop cleaners for robots we've examined. And it's highly self-sufficient with a fully-featured app as well as an auto-emptying washable base.
The well-designed iRobot application guides you through a mapping session that collects data about your floorplan as well as any "no-go" areas you have marked on the map. It can be used to design cleaning schedules or set up the spot-cleaning. affordable robot vacuum can also use it to prioritize your dirtiest areas for greater efficiency. The app has a range of features, such as seasonal suggestions, custom mapping, and advanced cleaning settings.
Its shape is more rectangular than most other robot vacuums, meaning it is able to reach corners and underneath furniture better. It also has a strong 8000 Pascal suction and combs that are intelligent for pet hair. It also has the ability to create a spot-clean that intensely cleans a localized area.
The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a more sleek and less expensive alternative to the iRobot Roomba. It's more appealing, Dolce & Gabbana-esque design and its twin cameras look like cute eyes. It's good at vacuuming, but is more prone to be caught by low thresholds and is a bit more noisy than the other top robot vacuums we've tested. It also has an app that is less intuitive and has a tiny base station that does not double as a bin for emptying.
